Hello friends! In my last post CCNA: UNDERSTAND WHAT IS HTTP SERVER I mentioned the steps to configure a HTTP server. If you have not read that post I will suggest you to read it first because you will no be able to get today’s post properly. In that post I use the term DNS server so let’s get it
WHAT IS DNS SERVER?
Every site has an ip address but we can’t remember ip address of each site, that’s why we give a name to it. For ex ip address of google.com is 220.127.116.11 but we just type google and get the desired result. This process of storing name of ip addresses is done by DNS server. In short a DNS server is used to store an ip address as a name.
Let’s understand it by using it
# open Cisco Packet Tracer Student
# now this time we will take 2 servers 1 switch and 1 computer
# connect the servers and the computer to the switch using automatically choose connection type
# now click on server which you want to make HTTP server
# click on services > http > on
# now click on desktop > IP configuration
# give an ip address let’s say 18.104.22.168 and press tab and subnet mask will be given automatically
Now as we are using DNS server we will also fill DNS address
# give DNS address let’s say 22.214.171.124
# click on another server which you want to make DNS server
# click on services > dns
# now give a name let’s say thevtech and write down it’s ip address that is 126.96.36.199
# click on add. Now address 188.8.131.52 has been added as thevtech
# now click on desktop of that server and then on IP Configuration
# give it ip address 184.108.40.206, press tab and subnet mask will be added automatically
# now give dns server as 220.127.116.11 because it is itself DNS server
# now click on computer
# click on desktop > IP configuration
# give it an ip address 18.104.22.168 and press tab subnet mask will be added automatically
Here’s our connection is ready. And to test it follow the given steps…..
# click on computer
# click on browser
# now in the address bar type thevtech and press enter
You will find a webpage
This is how we can configure HTTP server with DNS server. If you have any doubt in this section you can ask me through your comments.
