Hello friends! In all my previous posts on CCNA I have mentioned how we can configure a network using a switch. From today’s post we will learn how we can setup a network using a router.
What is router ?
A switch can connect devices that are in the same network, a router is a device which can connect different networks.
A router is a device which can connect devices of different multiple networks. But we will start from the very basic and will first learn to connect two computers lying in different networks using a router. So let’s get started.

To connect two computers using a router follow the given steps…..
# take 1 router and 2 computers
# now connect them using automatically choose connection type wire
You will find that ports will not turn into green which means they are not in an on state or you could simply say that are not connected. To turn these ports green follow the given steps…..
NOTE:- make sure you can see which terminal (fa0/0, fa0/1) is connect to which terminal. To make terminal visible follow the given steps…..
# click on option > click on preferences
# select Always show port lable
# click on router
# click on configuration
To connect the computer of interface fa0/0 select fastEthernet0/0
# click on fastEthernet0/0
# give a ip address, let’s say 184.108.40.206 and press enter, subnet mask will be added automatically.
# turn it on
To connect the computer of interface fa0/1 select fastEthernet0/1
# click on fastEthernet0/1
# give a ip address, let’s say 220.127.116.11 and press enter, subnet mask will be added automatically.
# turn it on
Now you will find that both the ports have been turned to green which implies that they are in a connection.
So this is how we can connect 2 computers of different network using a router. If you have any doubt regarding this post please mention it in your comments.
