CONFIGURING STATIC ROUTING IN 2 ROUTERS

Hello friends! In my last post CCNA: CONNECTING 2 COMPUTERS OF DIFFERENT NETWORK USING A ROUTER I mentioned the steps on how we can set up a network between 2 computers of the different network. In my today’s post, I will tell you the how we can configure a network using static type routing. So let’s get started.

What is routing?

The word ‘routing ‘ is derived from the word route which means path. In routing, we tell path of one network to another network so that every device can connect to each other.

Follow the given steps…..

# take 2 routers and 2 computers

2 routers and 2 computers

# connect them using automatically choose connection type wire

2 routers and 2 computers

# click on router 1 > config

# assign an IP address to port fa0/0, let’s say 1.0.0.1. and turn it on

configuring router

# now provide an IP address to port fa0/1 of router 1, let’s say 2.0.0.1. and turn it on

configuring router

# click on router 2 > config

# assign an IP address to port fa0/0, let’s say 2.0.0.2 and turn it on

configuring router

# now provide an IP address to port fa0/1 of router 2, let’s say 3.0.0.1 and turn it on

configuring router

# give an IP address to pc0, let’s say 1.0.0.2

configuring pc

# give an IP address to pc1, let’s say 3.0.0.2

configuring pc

If you don’t know how to give an ip address to a pc, I will suggest you to read my previous posts on ccna. To read all my posts click here.

Now you will find that all ports are green. But still, they are not connected which means you cannot send a message from pc0 to pc1 or vice-versa. Here in the picture given below router 1 don’t know about network 3.0.0.0 and router 2 don’t know about network 1.0.0.0 because they are not connected to each other directly. To connect them we will perform static routing on both the router so that they can know about each others network.

Follow the given steps to done static routeing on both the routers.

# click on router 1 > cli and press enter

# now write down the following codes

Router>en

Router#config t

Router(config)#ip route 3.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 2.0.0.2

Router(config)#exit

configuring router

# click on router 2 > cli and press enter

# now write down the following codes

Router>en

Router#config t

Router(config)#ip route 1.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 2.0.0.1

Router(config)#exit

configuring router

THAT’S IT

Now our connection is ready. If you have any doubts you can mention it in your comments.
