HOW TO USE A ROUTER AS DHCP SERVER IN DIFFERENT NETWORKS

Hello friends! In my last post HOW TO USE A ROUTER AS DHCP SERVER, I mentioned the steps to use a router as a DHCP server in a single network. In my today’s post, I will tell you to tell you about the same method but in different networks. If you have not read my previous post then I will suggest you read it first. So let’s not waste time and get started.

Follow the given steps…..

# take 2 routers and 3 computers

2 ROUTERS AND 2 PCS

# now connect them using automatically choose connection type wire

CONNECTING 2 ROUTERS AND 2 PCS

# click on router 1 > config

# click on FastEthernet0/0 and give it an IP address let’s say 1.0.0.1

ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS

# click on FastEthernet0/1 and give it an IP address let’s say 2.0.0.1

ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS

# click on router 2 > config

# click on FastEthernet0/0 and give it an IP address let’s say 2.0.0.2

ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS

# click on FastEthernet0/1 and give it an IP address let’s say 3.0.0.1

ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS

Our network is almost ready. Now select the router which you want to make DHCP server.

# click on the router which you want to make DHCP server > cli

# now write the codes on it which are given below:-

DHCP CONFIGURATION

for network 1.0.0.0

Router(config)#ip dhcp pool thevtech
Router(dhcp-config)#network 1.0.0.0 255.0.0.0
Router(dhcp-config)#default-router 1.0.0.1
Router(dhcp-config)#exit

here thevtech is just a name

for network 3.0.0.0

Router(config)#ip dhcp pool thevtech2
Router(dhcp-config)#network 3.0.0.0 255.0.0.0
Router(dhcp-config)#default-router 3.0.0.1
Router(dhcp-config)#exit

here thevtech2 is just a name

# now click on pc1 > Desktop > IPConfiguration

assigning ip address

# click on DHCP, the IP address will be assigned to it automatically

ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS

# repeat the same step with pc2

THAT’S IT

This is how we can turn a router into DHCP server in two or more networks. If you have any doubt, advice or suggestion regarding this post please mention it in your comments.
