HOW TO GIVE AN ENCRYPTED PASSWORD TO A ROUTER

Hello friends! In my previous post HOW TO ADD PASSWORD SECURITY TO ROUTER, I mentioned the steps to add a password to a router and also describe the way to see given a password to a router. In my today’s post, I will tell you the way to give an encrypted password to a router so that no one can see it. So let’s get started.

# take a router and a computer ( to make it easier to understand )

1 router and 1 pc

# connect them using automatically choose connection type wire

connecting 1 router and 1 pc

# click on the router > config

# assign an IP address to it let’s say 1.0.0.1

configuring router

# click on PC > IP Configuration

configuring pc

# assign an IP address to it let’s say 1.0.0.2

configuring pc

Our connection is ready. Now it’s time to give an encrypted password to the router.

# click on the router > cli

# now type the following code:-

Router(config)#enable secret 12345

Router(config)#exit

THAT’S IT

Now nobody will be able to see the password which you have given to the router. If anybody will try to see the password by using the command show run, the password will be displayed in an encrypted form.
