HOW TO CONVERT A PARTITION FROM MBR TO GPT

Hello friends! In my today’s post, I will tell you about how we can convert a partition from MBR to GPT. But before that let us discuss a bit about these to terms.

MBR and GPT are two ways in which we arrange our hard disk in partitions or we can say they are a kind of partition systems. But they are different from each other. Actually, GPT partition is somewhere much better than MBR. How? Let’s find out.

MBR: – MBR stands for Master Boot Record which is a default way in which our windows partitions are arranged. With this type of partition system you can only have 4 primary partitions and to create more partitions we have to make an extended partition out of any primary partition. MBR could hold up to 2 TB space of hard disk.

GPT: – GPT stands for GUID Partition Table. With GPT type partition system you can create more partitions( upto 128 ) and there’s no limit of harddisk space with such type of partition sytem.

So we can understand how GPT partition system is more reliable than MBR partition system.  So let’s learn how to convert a MBR partition system to GPT partition system using Command Prompt.

NOTE :- All the data will be deleted when we convert MBR system to GPT system.

# open command prompt ( as admin )

# type :- diskpart (enter)

# type :- list disk (enter)

# type :- select disk 0 (enter)

disk 0 = hard disk

# type :- clean (enter)

mbr to gpt

# type: – convert gpt

THAT’S IT

Our disk has been converted to GPT system.

NOTE:- We can convert MBR partion to GPT partition at the time of installation of windows as well by opening Command Prompt. We just need to open the command prompt by pressing SHIFT + F10 and need to follow the above steps.

So this was how we can convert MBR sytem to GPT system using command prompt. If you have any doubt, suggestions or advise regarding this post then please mention it in your comments.
